We are getting fatter!!!

Yeah! We are back from the doctor and currently asleep in the car seat. Lucas now weighs 7lbs, 6 oz.!!! Yippee!!! We were losing weight and might have had to supplement with formula, but now we don’t!

Went through pics last night and found my favorite. Man, she loves this kid.

Have a great day!

Getting acclimated

Well…we are a week old today. Time has flown by already. Lucas has gotten more adjusted to us and we to him. Little quirks are getting figured out bit by bit. We go to the doctor tomorrow to get re-weighed because he has lost a bit of weight. Today we had a sponge bath. Gram helped us and Lucas was not a fan but this pic is after the bath trauma was over.

The Colorado clan came in for a bit and got to know Lucas this week. It was great to see them. A few pics from this week. They CO crew left today but left Gram here as the “nanny”. We miss them already but Gram has been a huge help and allowed John and I to get some sleep and walk us thru some shaky moments. Mom was here for a few nights as well and well she could just move in right now and that would be so great.

Sleep has been a bit limited but again Gram has been awesome. Wrigley has been adjusting pretty well. A few licks on the head have been the signs of affection.

Ok, baby is crying…gotta go. Have a great day!

Introducing Lucas!!!

We want to introduce our new little one…Lucas Anthony Martinez

He is totally perfect and gorgeous to boot! He was born on March 20, 2008 at 3:12pm. He weighed 7lbs, 14oz and was 20 inches long. He has a great demeanor so far, like his dad. Really calm and only gets upset when he has to be changed. He is really tiny so all the clothes are a bit big but that is ok. Life at home is good. The first night was really difficult for all of us but last night was so much better. Mom stayed the night and was a lifesaver. We couldn’t have done it without her.

This pic is of J,L, our labor nurse Shana, and I. She was amazing too. She was with us through the whole labor process. Labor was from 7:30 to 3pm. At 3:12, and after 5 pushes, Lucas was born. I, apparently, am very lucky to have had that experience over another. So I know there were a few angels looking out for us.

This is Lucas with his Auntie Cait, getting their snuggle time in.

Daddy is in love with his little man. John has been amazing for both Lucas and I, amid studying for his midterms and work…he has been up for 95% of feedings, and is a whiz at changing diapers. As he stated prior to the birth, “he has skills”. Ha.
This is Uncle Jose, John’s brother, with his new nephew. Jose said it was his baby.

Lucas was ready to go home in his outfit that his Aunt Georgia bought him. Too cute. The hat is my favorite.

Look for more pics of our little man soon. We are about to wake up and well the diner needs to be open. 🙂 Talk to you all soon!

The time has come!

We are offically giving Lenny his eviction papers tomorrow at 7am CST. He is still enjoying the resort I have so lovingly made. But now I am out of space and patience. 🙂 Wish us luck…we are delivering at Shawnee Mission Medical Center but the cell phones will be at the ready.

Wrig is spending the night and the next few days with his Uncle Greg and honestly doesn’t even seem to realize we are gone yet. I hugged on him but he had not a care in the world. John gave him the talk about becoming a big brother and a role model. Funny.

We want to thank everyone for their prayers and thoughts. We are so overwhelmed with the support everyone has shown us. Lucas is entering the world one lucky kid.

Talk to you all soon…when we are parents. Whoa. 🙂

Still Waiting….

Hi all!!!
We are still waiting for our little one. Apparently, using someone else’s words, he is enjoying his 5 star all inclusive resort. Oh well. We are trying to be patient but Thursday (induction day) couldn’t come soon enough! We will keep you updated!

Ok still no baby but big news on that same subject…

I went to the doctor today and everything looks good. She said that she wouldn’t be surprised if I went into labor this week. Um, I’m sorry, what??? She complimented my cervix, which thanked her. She said I was 3cm dilated as well. Apparently, this child’s noggin is about as “engaged” as it can be outside of being, well, outside.

So, then she says, if you don’t go this week or by the 19th, we need to schedule an induction on the 20th. Again, I say “um, what???” So Lenny will be here to greet all of you on the 20th at the most. Wow. That really freaks me out but very cool at the same time.

So cross your fingers for it to be earlier, but who knows. There have been instructions from Kel and a few others to do lots of walking and eat spicy food. So we will see what happens.

Delayed Pics….

Ok this post is purely pics that I haven’t had time to post yet. Forgive me. This was our cake from the Martinez shower. My s-i-l Jessica did pretty good, huh? My hubby & I cutting the cake….then he split fast… This pic is an example of the outfits we got. Too funny. I could be biased but this is the cutest Martinez-Bennett baby, little Kramer. Check the ‘do.

The next shower was Angela’s and it was fabulous as well. We got bathtubs, books on sleeping babies, and KU stuff! Thanks Molly! This is the hostess with the mostess. Still cute after 13 years! Thanks again, Angela!

Now here are some random pics. My m-i-l went to Jamesport Missouri this weekend to an Amish community and found this cute train set. This is the finished “L” canvas which all shower attendees have signed. It turned out pretty cute. Thanks Mom! And finally the nursery… and Wrig. Wrig is still not sure why we are in this room all the time now. Time will tell.

Have a good weekend! Pray for a baby to arrive this week… I’m never early to anything so it could be a silly request but who knows.

Love, J,C,L,and W

Well still no baby. Not that I am surprised considering that we have at least 2 weeks til D-day. But everyone keeps asking so I thought I would state it for the record. Things are ready to go for the most part. Nursery is complete- outside of John hanging the ultra cool video monitor deal on the wall. It is a mix between cool and a bit Blair Witch Project–especially the night vision part. But it works really well (thanks Auntie Gia!!).

The car seat passed inspection as well today. That kind of freaks me out a bit to turn around and see that in the car. But I am getting over it.

Lots of contractions but nothing regular. Again, more dilation is occurring but I will spare you the details of that. The new update would be the “pity looks” I am getting lately. More on the part of “oh, poor you” from moms or “poor girl looks like she has been hit by a truck”. I am betting on the latter of the two.

John and I are fans of a show called Notes from the Underbelly. Pretty funny and shockingly accurate of a prego lady for the first time.

Just funny. Funny stuff.

Gotta go… But we will keep you updated!

The shower season is complete…

Can I just say thank you? To all who have thought of us, given us such cute things or just kept us in your prayers. We are so blessed to have you all in our lives and our baby is so lucky to have so many people who love him already. It really is overwhelming, in a great way.

“THE DAY” is getting closer and I can tell that by this conversation that seems to be reoccurring:
Person: When are you due?
Me: March 19th
Person: (eyes widening)…”oh my anytime now” OR “my, that’s soon!”
Me: Yes, yes it is…. (internal thought is not able to typed b/c my mom reads this blog).

We were lucky enough to have another shower today. My long time friend, Angela threw a “friends” shower for us. It was great! Mom’s friends, Cait’s friends and mine all got to be together in one place with great food, and more importantly, great conversation. It was so good to get to see people we haven’t seen in a while. Angela did a great job and we really appreciate it.

I will post pics tomorrow of that shin-dig. The KU game is on….I have my priorities, you know. Ha!

Again, thank you for all the things you have done for us…Lucas and his mom and dad are so lucky to have such amazing people in our lives.
