We have selected our team name for Relay for Life!!! We are the All-Stars! An email was sent out today to invite people to join our team.
Hello All! I want to let you know about a cool upcoming event which I am inviting you to be a part of. It is called Relay For Life, their signature event that benefits the American Cancer Society. I am putting a team together to participate in the local Kansas City event on July 13-14th, 2007. Each one of us has been touched by someone who has fought cancer or is affected by it. This is our chance to make a difference and appreciate and honor the people we love.
I invite each of you to join our team, “The All-Stars” and spend the night walking and raising money for this good fight. I have created a blog (http://cjmjayhawk.blogspot.com/) for you to see more information or to ask questions. I will be updating this blog on a regular basis in order for you all to be “in the know”.
For those of you who don’t know, Relay For Life is a large event where teams commit to walking for 12 hours. It is to signify that cancer never sleeps and we won’t stop until we find a cure. Another reason is because it signifies a cancer patient’s journey through cancer. Sunset, realizing they have cancer; Night time when they feel that have no hope and are going through treatments and Sunrise when they have finished treatment and can see their future ahead of them.
Teams are made up of 8-15 people. Each team pledge to have at least one team member walking or running the track at all times. The date of the event is July 13-14th, 2007 from 7pm to 7am at the Blue Valley District Athletic Complex (135th & Switzer). A participant’s goal is to raise a minimum of $100.00. Participants are required to pay a $10 commitment fee prior to the event. I am inviting each of you to participate for at least a few hours. Come hang out and walk with us and support a great cause as well.
The night begins with a Survivor’s Reception, if you are a Survivor or know one, we invite them to kick off the Relay with the opening lap at 7pm. “The All-Stars” along with the other teams participating will be camping out, eating, playing games and supporting each other at the Athletic Complex. More information will be available on the blog – we are open to suggestions! Feel free to pass those along.
If you are unable to make the event but still want to support this great cause, please let me know.
On a personal note, Caitlin Faddis, my sister, is one of the Kansas City Metro Regional Community Managers for American Cancer Society. She coordinates some of the local Relay For Life events. Our goal is to make this a very successful event for the cause and for her. I would love to have a large turnout to show support for the Overland Park/Leawood Relay For Life event. If you have questions, please contact me at email@example.com or Caitlin at Caitlin.firstname.lastname@example.org.
